How to Use OnTempo
Welcome! OnTempo is super simple to use. Here's everything you need to know.
🎵
What does it do?
OnTempo measures the tempo (BPM) of any music by tapping along to the beat. That's it! Whether you're planning a workout playlist or mixing tracks, you'll get accurate tempo measurements in seconds.
🚀
Getting started
- Open the app and you'll see the BPM display
- Play your music in the background
- Tap the screen in time with the beat
- The BPM appears after a few taps — that's it!
🔄
Between songs
No need to manually reset! The app automatically clears between songs:
- Fades after 20 seconds of inactivity and resets automatically a few seconds later
- Tap anytime during the fade to keep measuring the same song
⚙️
Customize it
How many taps?
Choose how many taps you want before seeing the BPM (tap the settings icon ⚙️):
4
Taps:Quick measurements when you're in a hurry
8
Taps (Default):The sweet spot for most situations
16
Taps:Super precise for slow songs or critical accuracy
Other options
- Haptic Feedback: Feel a vibration with each tap (turn it on or off)
- Theme: Automatically matches your phone's light or dark mode
🎯
Getting accurate results
- Tap consistently to the main beat (usually the kick drum)
- Need precision? Use 16-tap mode for slow songs
- In a rush? 4-tap mode gives you quick readings
- Give it a moment — the BPM settles after you finish tapping
- Works for tempos from 40 to 600 BPM (basically all music!)
🔧
Having issues?
BPM not showing up?
- Make sure you're tapping consistently with the beat
- Try switching to a different tap mode (4, 8, or 16)
- Check that the tempo is between 40-600 BPM
Numbers look wrong?
- Switch to 16-tap mode for better precision
- Make sure you're tapping on the main beat (not the off-beats)
- Wait a moment for the reading to settle
